Was on my way to Bang & Olufsen of Coulsdon earlier this afternoon, when I walked by our local butcher shop Martin James and a sign outside his shop caught my eye – Venison. Now cheaper than lamb or beef.

I am always in support for local butchers and green grocers, and will always try to buy my meat and two veg from them rather than the supermarkets. Anyway, I walked in and bought some venison steaks from our local butcher.

Wild Men Ooga Ooga?? What’s that about??

Well, having bought these lovely, gorgeous venison steaks, I suddenly have images of spit roasted whole roe deer over a fire, circa 16th century Sherwood forest… Robin Hood and his Merry Men…. lol.. Wild Men Oooga Ooga Sexy Hunks or what?!!

So… What and how am I going to cook these lovely venison steaks? Haven’t got a clue. But I do know a great sauce I once made which I think will be great with it

Here’s the receipe for the sauce. It’s a nutty, fruity kinda sauce that goes well with wild game:

    * a very large knob of butter (my friends know that Wardi doesn’t really measure when it comes to cooking)
* 60g(??) or so raisins, soaked in hot water for about 30 minutes. It’s ok if you forget how long you left them to soak because you got caught up watching the lastest episode of Strictly Come Dancing.
* 3 tablespoons pine nuts
* 1 teaspoon redcurrant jelly
* 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar
* 1 glass red wine

To make the sauce, melt the butter in a frying pan over a medium–high heat and fry the drained raisins (oh yeah, forgot to tell you that you have to drain them raisins!!!) and the nuts for 3–4 minutes until the nuts are lightly toasted. Add the rest of the sauce ingredients to the pan. Simmer for 15 minutes until you have a lovely rich sauce. Add whatever juices you get from cooking/roasting/marinating the meats into the sauce. Usual salt & pepper to taste.

Great sauce, eh? So, will I make this sauce to go with my venison tonight? Nah!! Probably go for a curry

Several weeks ago, Martin (he works for me and is a little like my Tonto.) and his partner Carleen decided to go self-efficient. They’ve been conscious about being green & organic for a while now and had made a conscious effort to play their part.

Their recent project of growing their own vegetables at the allotment haven’t really been very successful. So, they have decided to go for chickens!!! Not for their meat but for their eggs.

It is a noble idea – Adopt/rehome ex-battery hens so they can enjoy a free range retirement whilst still producing eggs.

It was all going as planned. The adoption was arranged. Time for collecting the chickens was agreed. The chicken run was ordered – Delivery date confirmed. Feed ordered……

But like all the best laid plans – Something had to go wrong!!!!!

The delivery of the chicken run was handled by Amtrak. They tried to deliver it to Martin’s home address. However, no one was in to receive it. The delivery was scheduled for the next day. Of which, Martin was not able to receive it (again). It then went back to the depot somewhere in the UK. Martin rang the company which sold him the chicken run to see if they can have it re-delivered back to the work address (Upon my BRILLIANT suggestion, of course!!!). The company then said that there will be a charge of £45 for re-delivery & packaging.

Packaging? “WHAT PACKAGING!!!!” yelled Martin like a screaming queen (That’s what happens to straight guys when they mix around way to much in the company of gay folks!!! Not that I’m a screaming queen, mind you!!!!). Anyway, a price was agreed for the re-delivery – £25, which I thought was fair enough.

Here’s where the fun begins. Amtrack, the delivery comapny, then decide to go bust and go into administration. All deliveries are re-routed and handled by Business Post……

No sign of chicken run anywhere!!!!

Many phone calls later ( panicking a little here, Martin that is, as the chickens wil be arriving on Saturday and it’s already Friday, and there is still no sign of the delivery of the chicken run…..DAMN!!!!), the company that sold the chicken run said to Martin they’ll try and sort something out. Later that afternoon, they said that they have received the chicken run back and will dispatch them out to him immediately and to the work address!!

BTW, chicken arrived on Saturday, and had to temporarily live in the greenhouse.

So, Monday came and Monday went. No sign of delivery. This morning, I received a phone call from Martin (he’s at home since it’s his day-off):

Martin: Guess what?
Wardi: What?
Martin: The chicken run arrived here.
Wardi: What? Really? I thought you wanted it to be re-delivered here at the shop?
Martin: I did. But when I got home from my driving lesson this morning, I found a Business Post van parked outside my house, trying to deliver the chicken run.
Wardi: What a bit of luck, eh? Just as you got home. Otherwise, we’d have to go through all the malarkey all over again.

Anyway, the morning passed….. I got seriously bored (as usual). A UPS delivery man popped his head into the showrom:

UPS: Excuse me, what number is this building?
Wardi: 2 Norfolk House…
UPS: Great!!! I have a delivery for you

Yup!!! You’ve guess it!!! Another set of chicken run for Martin.

Anyone fancy having a go at keeping chickens? Martin has a spare chicken run available!!!!! ROFL.

Randy and I was talking yesterday whilst having pints at the local pub; No, we don’t spend all our time at the pub drinking pints upon pints!!! It just seem like we do – But we don’t. We do have other stuff that we attend to……

Anyway, we were talking about blog sites, in comparison to our own respective blog sites. (btw, his lordship never understood why the need to blog or the concept of blogging, “Why not just go get yourself a diary if it’s your own personal ramblings” said his lordship… Ignorant peasant!!!! LOL) Randy was suggesting that perhaps his blog lacks a certain direction – One minute haiku writing, next minute YouTubing, and the next getting all political and bothered etc etc.

I do admire blogs that carries a single “voice”… a political statement, or direction. A single theme that the blogger is passionate about – be it the arts, photography, sexual orientation… whatever. But do I find these sites interesting enough to regularly follow them, and not get bored after a little while??

It made me examine my own blog …….

When I started blogging, I wanted a blog just like everyone’s…. Clever writings, thought provoking essays, photography, video, music …. Even to the design of my blog – I wanted it to be like one of those wonderful, thought provoking blogs that has a purpose……..

But it wasn’t me!! I’m not clever, nor am I passionately politically inclined. I’m definitely not religious. I’m not overtly cynical. I’m not giggly-bubbly happy, nor am I a miserable bastard (except of course, when it comes to August every year… but that’s an entire blog site on it’s own!!). I don’t have a particular style. I’m not here to shout & rant about the breeding patterns of South American Budgerigars.

Then one day, I found this Sandbox template (which is the template design that I’m currently using, with a little tweak here and there) that says “Do blogs have to look like blogs?”. The design shouted out “Wardi!!! That’s so you!!!” …. Text, fonts, typeface, words just spilled all over the page – It says exactly what my blog is – MY RAMBLINGS!!! Of no particular reason, directions or purpose.

So… Why don’t I just go out and get myself a diary (as pointed out by his lordship)?? Because then I will no longer have a need for my MacBook Pro or the G5, my iPhone 3G, internet broadband at lightning speed…..

The end of the journey? Or is this just the begining?

Four years ago, his lordship & I decided that it’s time that we expand the business – It’s time for growth!! We decided that the thing to do is to set up a new showroom in Croydon.

I’ve been running the Croydon showroom for four years now – constantly swimming upstream trying to make this work!! At first it was exciting, very exciting!!! A new venture, new challenges, new prospects. Four years on, I’m running out of steam and the Croydon store has yet to take off…. A constant drain on our finances and resources with monthly losses.

His lordship is too…. Fast running out of steam.

This morning we had a meeting. After a lengthy discussion, we both agreed & decided that it’s best to end it and shut shop.

You can’t get a dead horse to run by flogging it!

So, is this the end of the journey or just the begining of one…..
